  1. OH NO! It had to happen - graphic design reduced to a pathetic, trite, reality, bs, demeaning bunch of nonsense newsy snippet. Hackwork glorified. And boring concept too. Another example of how video editing can take nothing & give it a superficial sense of something exciting or important. No comment on the musak - I've said too much already.

  3. I should clarify - this ain't about graphic design. It is about the production end of the work, where speed is a virtue. Especially in a fast paced ad agency setting. Or at a sweatshop print house. Graphic design is about communication, ideas, getting someone to take action. This is Iron Chef for production.

  4. I've watched Iron Chef a couple of times and they produce some fine cooking. It is a race but you can't tell them not to do it. Obviously they enjoy the race. So perhaps this also is about graphic design? Yes, and a race of some sort.

  5. To clarify, no this isn't about graphic design. My error is saying that in comment one. This is a "production artist" competition. At an ad agency or design studio this is a person who is very skilled at working the computer (who used to do paste up before digital technology). Speed & accuracy are their skill set & bring great value to work that must be completed at a lighting speed pace. This competition is about this kind of skill set.

Okay, I should have said reality tv instead of Iron Chef.

It is still all about the editing. No content & quick cuts fools some of the people some of the time.

  6. actually this is exciting and fun.... i feel that you can still make quality work in short amount of time, take for example deadlines in art work, or even Iron Chief (this is actually a perfect example) and if they were to make a battle out of it then let it be. like they said the battle aspect derives from bboying "breakdancing" its a way to make you better and to have fun doin it thats the idea behind it. To me art in part is about expanding the mind and what better way to do so but when your under pressure... And to be clear Iron Chef is Reality TV
